this book was just what I was looking for--wildlife areas in Colorado. Simple, to the point.
This is one in a series of books we find very informative as we travel. We use them all the time.
This book is severely handicapped by its lack of an animal index/cross-reference. The book provides a reader with no means whatsoever to determine where he/she might see a specific type of animal, for an example, a bighorn sheep...or an elk...or a mountain goat. Instead it identifies discrete points scattered around the state where someone might've seen some wildlife at some point in the past...not a specific type of animal mind you, but wildlife in general. It does indeed list some specific animal types in the text of the description of each viewing site but you'd have to read each and every site description (hundreds) to learn where your wildlife of interest either could or could not be seen. Furthermore, the viewing sites indicated are not specific. It'll tell you that Gunnison Colorado is a place to view wildlife...if you read the description for Gunnison you'll see that elk can be seen there. At this point you've merely learned something that is very common and general knowledge in the state. If you actually want to see some elk in Gunnison, you'll have to determine on your own which of the several hundred thousand acres of land in the Gunnison area might have some elk. It is useless.
I bought this guide for my husband. He really likes it. He said it's full of good information and the pictures are really nice. I would recommend it for all animal lovers!
