Facts and pictures about the Arizona spring training Cactus League. This book includes the history of the Cactus League dating back to it's inception including all of the teams that were once part of the league.
Wanted to read this book after visiting AZ for spring training several times. Interesting to see the stadiums as they once were and as they are today. Was particularly interested in the Cubs HoHoKam and Rendevous Park. Visited Diamond Sports Bar nearby once owned by Harry Caray and the info about the area provides insight into this Cubs mecca. The Buckhorn Baths is also interesting as it still sits intact with all it's baseball history. Will stop for a look next time I'm in AZ
both my brother-in-law and myself found the history of the arizona "team grab" fascinating. the pictures of the old and new players etc bring back memories of why baseball is a great game. trips to spring training facilities are enhanced by the book. i will visit the museum the nxt time i am in the phoenix area.
I bought this book at Spring Training Festival in Scottsdale, Az on Feb 25, 2012. And had it autographed by Susie, the author. I read through the book in few days. Looking at 200+ pictures & historical facts of old MLB teams and players (some are Hall of Famers) makes me want to travel back in time to have the experience. The book is AWESOME as I learned wonderful history facts about teams & stadiums that came and went in Arizona since 1909 to when the Cactus League officially started in 1954 to new stadiums and 15 teams that currently practice in the Valley. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to hardcore baseball fans. Y'all will not be disappointed. Cactus League today is not the same as 60 years ago but it's still fun.
Moving to the Phoenix area 3 years ago I was just interested in learning how besides the Cleveland Indians and the New York/San Francisco Giants wound up chosing Arizona for their spring training sites. Was a very fast read bringing back a number of memories.
