It should be known that this is the first official published divine office for the Anglican Ordinariates following the Book of Divine Worship. The chief editor and organizer of this work is Monsignor Andrew Burnham. One thing of note for Msgr. Burnham, he came out of the English Anglo-Catholic Liturgical Movement that is all but gone in the Anglican Communion now that the Ordinariates exist. One of the by-products of the movement was an emphasis on the availability of options available in prayer and liturgy. So, that being the case, he presents the offices in (for the most part) continuity with the Book of Divine Worship. The options begin where he adds pages of notations, and supplemental prayers for the minor offices to be used in the Roman Liturgy of the Hours. The setup is very confusing indeed. The book could use about 6 ribbons to try to have all the correct places marked. I do wish this were laid out in a better fashion. The Kalendar and propers for feast days are included in this as well. I am glad that he still is using the Coverdale Psalter as that is my favorite. I do wish this were condensed a little to match the style of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, a beautiful treasure of uniformity in prayer. The best treasure Msgr. Burnham has included is a weekly supplement to the Office of Readings, with readings from the Caroline Divines, the Oxford Movement, and giants of the Anglican Patrimony. This was a good first step for updating the Ordinariate offices. I hope the American version that is going to be published soon will be a bit more simple and straightforward.

While difficult to navigate for those who are not used to the Book of Common Prayer, it is a true gem that a complete cycle of the Liturgy of the Hours from the Anglican tradition has been fully, and welcomingly, accepted into the Catholic Church and given the Imprimatur. Perhaps more significantly, it includes all the Coverdale Psalms and excerpts taken from English sermons and for optional post-Biblical readings. As would be expected, figures such as Newman are included, but so are non-converts such as Keble, Laud, Andrewes, Wilberforce, and Thomas Ken who are "generally judged by competent commentators as representing a Catholic-minded stream in Anglican theology and spirituality." (24) Truly this represents a far fuller "coming-home" for the Anglican tradition than might otherwise be expected. Let us hope the American and Australian Ordinariates complete their Prayer Books in like manner but with improved organization.

Very helpful for anyone interested in improving the quality of Anglican liturgy. This is an important reference for lay and clergy alike. Especially helpful for holy days and special feast days information. Great resource for developing liturgy. Highly recommend to all who prepare worship services regardless of denomination.

Dear Monsignor Andrew Burnham,Thank you so much for your work of the Customary. I am becoming familiar with it daily and feel so much at home with it. I am a member of The Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of S. Peter but as there is no church or group for it in my area as yet, am a member of a Roman Catholic parish. I am so thankful for Benedict XVI for his provisions for us to be truly Catholic and yet save our Anglican heritage. Thank you so much for your untiring good work of the Customary of Our Lady of Walsingham, an historical, beautiful work.Sincerely yours, Ruth Heyder

This is an essential resource for members of the Ordinariates and a useful resource for everyone else. So buy it.
